Middletown Super Scrimmage DID NOT disappoint
We stopped by Middletown High School yesterday to check out the action and here are some notes and standouts we found.
SCORES & THOUGHTS
Franklin- 15, Cincinnati Taft- 27
After the first few minutes of being rattled by pressure, the Wildcats actually competed with the Preseason #1 DII Team in Ohio. The size will be Franklin's problem throughout the season while highly touted freshman Rayvon Griffith impressed many.
Thurgood Marshall- 35, Fairborn- 14
The Skyhawks looked intimidated from the tip while Thurgood looked to be having fun out there. Prophet Johnson is the energy guy for this group and was a great transfer in. This group is loaded with talent for the next 2 seasons!
Carlisle- 25, Middletown- 39
Carlisle looks like they will be fine once the season starts, Middletown looked great even without PG Rob Thompson. Their pressure was great and they knew how to score at the rim. Carlisle's Isaiah Dean & Middletown's Johrdon Mumford impressed a lot as they both showed loads of skill and shooting ability.
Toledo Rogers- 33, Dayton Belmont- 17
Belmont was at a heavy disadvantage without 5-star Center Shawn Phillips who was inactive due to energy. Rogers looked long and athletic with great players and great defenders. The athletic duo of Da'Sean Nelson & transfer Jamiya Neal were both forces and will be a problem for anyone in the Lima/Toledo area. Senior guard Logan Moore showed flashes of being a great lead guard this season.
Thurgood Marshall- 36, Columbus Africentric- 32 (GAME OF THE DAY)
The last game I caught was a treat to watch as I had many standouts and takeaways from it. Thurgood went head to head with Columbus Africentric and it was a guard-heavy battle. Africentric started off with an early double-digit lead but after a talk from Coach McCullough Thurgood started to show their potential and what everyone was raving about this fall. The talking back and forth is always something you don't want to get out of hand but something that is necessary for the sport. The 5 man rotation of Colter, Elmore, Amerson, Johnson & McComb were giving the standout trio of Cali Davis, Eli Burke & Daniel Wagner all they could handle as TM would get the early win.
